VDM 30 in 30 – Intro

For those of you who subscribe to my blog, be forewarned, you are about to be barraged with blog posts. After serious contemplation earlier this year, and last year, I have decided to take part in the VDM 30 in 30 challenge. I have no idea what my posts will look like, and I’ll try to keep them somewhat technical / IT related, but I may go off-topic at some point – you have been warned.

So what is the VDM 30 in 30? VDM is short for Virtual Design Master which is a tech-oriented, web-only show similar in spirit to a lot of those ‘best in class’ shows, like Hell’s Kitchen and the like. The difference with VDM is that participants are given scenarios and they need to turn-in designs in a fairly short time frame (a few days). After their designs are turned in, they are critiqued by some of the highest-caliber experts in the field.

The same folks who came up with Virtual Design Master issued a challenge: write 30 posts in 30 days. The point of the exercise isn’t necessarily to create more technical content, but rather to give bloggers a chance to practice their writing skills, as well as to hopefully develop a routine to blog regularly.

So, why am I taking the challenge? Well, because it’s a challenge. November is shaping up to be one my busiest months on record. I am presenting at the upcoming Toronto VMUG, I am thrilled to be whisked away to San Jose for Tech Field Day 12, and then I have my own Southwest Ontairo Veeam User Group meeting that I am throwing towards the end of the month. With all of that in mind, I thought “Hey, why I don’t I do something stupid and commit myself to more work”, and that’s how I ended up here.

Truth be told, I want to see if I can do it – if I can commit to something for an extended period and follow through. Writing isn’t the hard part – coming up with (hopefully good) content is. I figure that if I can do this during a busy time period, then I have no excuse not to do it when things quiet down.

So, what can you expect from me for the next month? Well, at least 29 more blog posts. I’ll probably be posting things like my research / notes leading up to Tech Field Day, recaps of the VMUG and SWOVUG events, etc. Chances are you will also see posts focus on my past experiences and thoughts. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some useful, technical, blog posts in as well.

So with that being laid out, here we go : )
